Madawna Springer was born and raised in Indianapolis, where she began gymnastics and dance training at the
Girls' Club at age seven. By the age of 10, she was a team member of Wright's American Gymnastics, the top
gymnastics program in the state at that time. She also took intensive dance training at Jordan School of
Music on the campus of Butler University and competed on a dance team that took second place in the North
American Dance Nationals. As a freshman in high school, she was accepted into the Butler Performing Arts
scholarship program, where she trained at Butler University every morning, then attended tradition high
school classes in the afternoon. While a freshman, Madawna also made the Varsity Cheer team and continued
to cheer and dance and tumble throughout her high school years. As a senior, she was chosen to represent
Indianapolis area high schools as she tumbled in the opening ceremonies of the Pan Am Games which were held
in Indy that year.
In 1983, Madawna attended Taylor University where she cheered for three years and began teaching gymnastics
to local kids. During that time she was selected to the United States Cheerleaders Association National
Staff where she served as the West Coast Director of Dance and Tumbling.
In 1987, Madawna was chosen as an Indiana Pacemate where her tumbling skills were showcased and appeared on
national tv. As the only Rookie of five top Pacemates, she earned a coveted spot with a male stunting partner
and was highlighted going into commercials on TBS. In 1989 she trained at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg VA, as
an alternate cast member.
Throughout her adult life, Madawna has instructed gymnastics alongside coaches such as Bob Wright, who took
gymnasts to World Championships. She also attended national seminars, where she sat in small training group
conversations with Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner. She has also judged gymnastics and has been a member of
the National Association of Women's Gymnastics Judges.
Along with being a mom of five daughters, Madawna has coached various gymnastics and cheer teams including
Taylor University Cheerleaders, Logansport High School gymnastics and cheerleading, and Indiana All Star
Rebels cheer team. She owned and directed Dance Dreams Studio in Logansport and taught dance and tumbling at
Lightrider Ministries in Upland. Since 1995, she has directed Taylor University Cheer and Dance Camp each
summer through this past June.
After 15 years of marriage, Madawna lives in Upland with her daughters, Abbi, Hannah, Bethany, Micah and Leah
where they are active in and truly love their Upland Community Church. She continues to coach Indiana All Star
Cheer, where the team girls recently decided to change their name from Rebels to Angels in reference to their
commitment to bringing glory to Jesus Christ through their spirit, actions and performance routines.
