Jack Marshall II
is a Professional Cartoonist, Juvenile Probation Officer,
High School Boys Soccer Coach and an Estimator for Marion
Steel. He teaches at the Community School of the Arts as a
cartoon instructor for all ages. He has been an instructor
for CSA for over 8 years.
Jack was reared in Marion, IN and has lived here since his
birth. He graduated from Marion High school and went on to
graduate from Indiana University with a BA in Psychology and
Behavioral Sciences.
Jack enjoys drawing cartoons as well as teaching classes to
help others. Jack’s constant message to any inspiring
cartoonist is to practice, practice and practice. Further,
he suggests to his students to trace anything they can over
and over as most successful drawing comes from muscle
memory. Growing up, Jack recalls not being able to draw a
stick figure well but continued practicing and practicing
seeing as how this was a passion of his. He has seen
students in his class, who are far better than he ever was
at their age, and continues to reinforce to them the need
for constant repetition to sharpen their skills and not to
ever become discouraged to the point of quitting.
Jack has been published in a Magazine called the UNKOWN.
He developed a comic strip known as
FILE 13 that ran
in this magazine which was circulated worldwide and was sold
in stores such as Barnes and Noble, Amazon and Borders to
name just a few.
He was been working on this comic strip for the last several
years for syndication that has made it thru several
screening processes but seems to always lack that extra
something in the final process. His work has been critiqued
by Brad Bushel, Jim Davis’ agent for Garfield, whom
suggested that the comics submitted are very close to a
homerun but needs that something extra. Jack continues to
pursue his childhood dream by not giving up and continuing
to re-submit his strip
FILE 13. In addition, Jack is almost ready to
submit another comic strip that has been in the making for
over 8 years known as
OVER THE EDGE. Jack is most proud of this strip
and is hopeful this would be the one to push him through to
the next level.
In his spare time, whenever that happens, Jack draws
caricatures for people as well as celebrities. His most
proud moments include giving Mark Lowery, a well known
Christian comedian and singer a caricature as well as giving
Lisa Marie Presley, pop singer, a caricature. During the
exchange of the drawings to Lisa, it was hoped Lisa would
sign two of the three caricatures that Jack drew. The
caricatures all had different hair color highlights and as
it turns out, Lisa liked all three of the drawings and
signed only one and kept the other two. Oh well, beggars
can’t be choosers.
Jack invites all ages to his classes. He has taught a 6 year
old who had skills beyond his age as well as a surgeon who
enjoyed cartooning. Jack remembers having this surgeon in
his class and teaching him some cartooning skills, though
this doctor was very good prior to the class and this doctor
ended up sharing some skills with Jack when he had to do an
emergency surgery on him. So you never know where the world
of cartooning will lead you.
Remember those who try may fail but those who never try
already have!
