Monica was born and raised in the northern most of China, and she has been in America for over 8 years. She
studied public affairs & political sciences at IUPUI in Indianapolis. Currently, she is working for the
City of Marion as Director of International Affairs.
She is interested in abstract art, classical as well as pop music, economics and reading. Monica believes that
education is the most important part of human life no matter where you come from.
Although she has been influenced and challenged by American culture and ideas, the fundamental values and beliefs
that shaped her are deeply rooted in Chinese culture and philosophies. For example, Chinese believe in humbleness,
which is in contrast with America's belief that one should loudly praise his/her achievement. The interest of individuals
should always comply with the interest of majorities when there is conflicts, which is a great discrepancy with American's
idea that striving for personal success is the priority of one's life. To conclude, these differences exist and play roles
everywhere in our daily life, and you will get a taste of Chinese culture through learning the language, the customs, the
food, the music, and many other aspects of Chinese culture as well.
