I
am a junior in Oklahoma City University’s American Dance Pedagogy
program, where I am studying to become a master dance teacher. Upon
graduation, I will receive a Bachelor of Science in American Dance
Pedagogy. Along with a rigorous schedule of dance technique classes,
I have or will study dance health, anatomy and physiology for
dancers, dance studio technology, dance studio management,
accounting, economics, marketing, childhood education, advertising,
public relations, in addition to a solid liberal arts background
through general education requirements. After completing two and a
half years, I have attained 73 credit hours, and was recently voted
“Most Promising American Dance Pedagogy Sophomore” by the dance
faculty this past April.
While attending Oklahoma City University, I have received dance
training from Jay Fagan, Deborah Mitchell, and Heather Cornell in
addition to the outstanding faculty at OCU, which included Robert
Reed of the renowned St. Louis Tap Festival, Jo Rowan, and Mary
Price Boday, to name a few.
During these past two years I have been a member of the American
Spirit Dance Company, the Student Choreography Show, OCU Rhythms, a
hip hop/step team that performs during half-time at home basketball
games, and at various events both on and off campus. I also had the
opportunity to choreograph a dance number, and act in a
student-directed play, this past April.
After graduation, I would like the opportunity to perform in various
venues, and then eventually become the director of my own dance
studio.
Pictures of me can be found on the opening page of the Oklahoma City
University website at
okcu.edu, and on the “current students” page.
