03/08/2009 - Sunday, March 08, 2009 Live VOICES: Go Arts!: Local artists gaining attention Hollywood is taking notice By Mark Fauser Published: Sunday, March 8, 2009 3:07 AM EDT

In January, Hollywood actor Dan Roebuck (Fugitive), who did our Christmas show, requested demo reels of five of our CSA actors (Audrey Walts, Caleb Marshall, Rob Rittman, Alexa Roemke and Aaron Manning) to walk in and show the casting director for the new Disney Channel show Sonny in the House how good our kids are. Shortly thereafter, Alexa Roemke went out to Los Angeles to meet with Leland Grant, actor, singer, songwriter, to write music. She was in a music video for Dave Yaden; she watched a show at the Roxy; she met with NBC casting director Sheryl Levine; had a photo shoot with Nancy Larson; met a manager and an agent; wrote three new songs; and then went to Nashville, Tenn., to meet Sam Musso and has gained a lot of interest from everyone. Charles OHaver, a local police officer, and wonderful actor went out to Los Angeles in February to take classes from John DAquino. He also studied under Jerry Gelb. They did a showcase, and he did a scene with Japhett Gordon (Heroes) in front of the head of casting for CBS in the 1980s as well as Kimberly Bennick, who casts for the Disney Channel. Charles met with a Disney producer, who produced The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The response to Charles was great as well. Feb. 21, CSA teacher Natalie Smiley took five of our high school dancers (Kiki Fauser, Leah Breadlove, Katie Landrum, Stephanie Campos, Alexa Roemke) to perform in Indianapolis. All of them got paid and were hugely successful amongst the crowd. More paid performances and opportunities will come from that. Feb. 22, Aaron Messer and Caleb Marshall videotaped three scenes for a new Disney television pilot called A Million Hits. They did a spectacular job, and their reel has been hand-delivered by John DAquino (Cory In the House) to the casting director. In March, CSA is teaming up with the country club to teach cooking and ballroom dance. CSA is teaming up with Paddockview and teaching acting. They are also teaming up with Carey Services and the Grant County Special Education Cooperative to work with kids with autism. In April, student/teacher KiLeigh Williams is taking her dance team to compete in Chicago. In May, tap star Pascal Hulin will fly in from Germany to teach at CSA for a week. Giving our kids and adults real opportunities to learn and work in the arts is all I ever wanted for our people, and we are doing just that thanks to the support of Grant County and beyond. Mark Fauser is the executive director of the Community School of the Arts. Learn more online to www.csa-marion.com, e-mail info@csa-marion.com or call 662-6263. CSA is located in Centrum Mall, 428 S. 03/03/2009 - CSA raising funds for go-kart race A record breaking pole position day for CSA! $21,750.00 was received in 10 minutes for the 2009 Go-Art Go-Kart Race! Last year was $16,400.00 on Pole Day! We still have a long way to go to fill out the 96 race positions for the May 22 RACE but currently ahead of the pace! We are VERY grateful to the community and are extremely touched that companies and people are helping us in these very tough times! We want our kids to have the very best here in Grant County and could not do it without the communities support. Here are the pole results from Monday, Feb. 23: First: First Farmers Bank and Trust (new corporate sponsor); second: Paddock View Residential (new corporate sponsor); third: Gormon Center for Orthodontics (new race sponsor); fourth: Ewer & Moritz; fifth: Bank Of America (Amy Pinkerton & Dave Wilson); sixth: AFENA Federal Credit Union; seventh: Bruner Dental Center (new corporate sponsor); eighth: United Way of Grant County; ninth: Indiana Members Credit Union

02/15/2009 - A letter in the paper from PADDOCKVIEW: "... an amazing production of "Home for the Holidays" "We would like to take some time to express how amazing the production of Home for the Holidays was as part of the Christmas holidays in Marion. It was quite an undertaking, with more than 100 children having an opportunity to sing and act in this production. The adults from the community and professional actors recruited from Hollywood demonstrated a camaraderie that was obvious to all who attended this production. The quality of the acting, choir, band, skating and scenery was more than a notch above. This was a delightful experience for all. Thirty students from Paddock View Alternative School attended the Sunday matinee performance. The mixture of traditional, creative, zany, serious and humorous themes held the students attention and interest. Many of the issued presented during the play pertaining to character development are issues which the children are familiar with as part of their curriculum. Integrity, not being a bully, accountability, acceptance of differences and the ultimate belief that each and every person can make a difference were all beautifully demonstrated. Marion is fortunate to have Community School of the Arts with the many year-round opportunities which they afford children and adults. CSA should be both acknowledged and utilized as a valuable resource. A warm thank you and big hats off to Mark Fauser and Community School of the Arts" Paddock View Residential Center
